Recruiting: Board of Directors

Volunteer for Literacy Unlimited

Are you looking for something to keep you engaged and active and at the same time make a difference in the lives of others?  Do you want to devote some time giving back to your community? Or are you just passionate about reading and literacy and share our vision of “Literacy for All”?

Our organization, Literacy Unlimited, is looking for volunteers to join its Board of Directors. We are a charitable, not-for-profit community organization that is volunteer-driven and dedicated to changing lives through improved adult literacy.  For over 40 years now, we are the only adult literacy organization serving the West Island of Montreal.

Our Board of Directors is composed of nine dedicated volunteers from various walks of life who all have a passion for making a difference in the community in which we live. We meet monthly from September to June, and we are an active, working board.  We each take a leading or participatory role in one of our Board sub-committees that cover various areas such as Outreach, Fundraising, Program Activities, Policies and Procedures, Social Media and Branding Strategy, and Strategic Planning.  Through the application process you will meet with our Nominating Committee and experience the high level of governance and discipline with which we run the organization. On average, we each dedicate 5-10 hours per month.

If this interests you, and you would like to find out more, don’t hesitate to contact us at and a board member will be happy to speak to you about the role.  If you’re ready to apply, please send your CV with a cover letter to:
