Let’s Play and Read Together: The Reading Tic-Tac-Toe Challenge!

As we start the new year, we celebrate something special called Family Literacy Month throughout January. There’s this cool thing happening with Literacy Unlimited and the Pointe-Claire Public Library called the Reading Tic-Tac-Toe Challenge, and it’s all about getting families excited about reading.

The Rules for the Tic-Tac-Toe Game

Complete three activities in a row to fill out the Tic-Tac-Toe board.

A prize, including a gift certificate to a local bookstore, will be randomly drawn at the start of February.

The idea of the Reading Tic-Tac-Toe Challenge is easy but fun. People who join will get a Tic-Tac-Toe board. Each square on the board has a different reading task or challenge. These tasks are there to make reading fun in lots of different ways, like trying out new types of books or reading a story aloud to someone in your family.

During January, families can try to finish these tasks to make a line in Tic-Tac-Toe—going across, up and down, or diagonally. What’s great about this challenge is that families can choose what they want to read or which activity they want to do and when to do it.

How does it work? Download one (or both) of the two ‘game boards’ HERE.

Once done, you can share a picture of your finished game on social media using these hashtags: #LiteracyUnlimited #FLD (Family Literacy Day) #JAF (Journée de l’alphabétisation familiale) and #BibliothequePointeClaire + #PointeClaireLibrary.

Enter the Contest

Return your completed Tic-Tac-Toe board to the Library by Thursday, February 1.

Why Participate?

Doing these challenges and being part of this significant activity isn’t just fun—it’s also great for families in many ways. It helps families get closer by sharing stories, encourages trying out different kinds of books, and reminds everyone how awesome it is to read regularly, something that’s helpful for everyone.

By sharing their pictures on social media, families also help others feel excited about reading. It’s like creating an extensive online group that supports each other and shows how reading together can be great.

This teamwork between Literacy Unlimited and the Pointe-Claire Public Library shows how important it is for families to read together. It’s not just one person’s job—it’s something everyone can enjoy doing together.

Play Time!

So, when January starts, let’s jump into this awesome reading adventure! Let’s grab our Tic-Tac-Toe boards and promise to enjoy reading together as a family and in our community. Let’s read, have fun, and share stories!

Come join the Reading Tic-Tac-Toe Challenge, and let’s celebrate Family Literacy Month together. Let’s make a world where everyone loves reading and shares it with their families.

Remember to take a photo of your completed Tic-Tac-Toe board and use #LiteracyUnlimited #FLD (Family Literacy Day) #JAF (Journée de l’alphabétisation familiale) and #BibliothequePointeClaire + #PointeClaireLibrary to spread the fun of reading and encourage others to join in, too!
